Fulham vs Chelsea Prediction

Chelsea begin the new Premier League season with a West London derby at Craven Cottage, looking to make an immediate statement under Xabi Alonso after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign in which they finished 10th.

The club has responded with significant changes during the summer. Alonso has taken charge of a heavily reinforced squad, with Morgan Rogers arriving from Aston Villa as the headline addition. Chelsea have also added further experience and attacking depth with players such as Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson.

There have already been encouraging signs in attack. Chelsea ended their pre-season preparations with a 3–1 victory over Real Sociedad, with João Pedro scoring twice and completing an impressive pre-season in front of goal. Alongside Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers, he gives Chelsea several high-quality options in the final third.

Fulham, however, should not be underestimated at Craven Cottage. They recorded 11 wins, two draws and six defeats at home in the 2025/26 Premier League, scoring 30 goals and conceding only 20. They also defeated Chelsea 2–1 in this fixture last season, demonstrating that home advantage can make this derby particularly difficult for the visitors.

The major difference heading into the new campaign is the level of change at Fulham. Marco Silva has departed, Álvaro Arbeloa has taken charge, and important players including Raúl Jiménez and Harry Wilson have left. Replacing established contributors while adapting to a new manager creates additional uncertainty at the beginning of the season.

Chelsea are also adjusting to a new coach and therefore carry risks of their own. However, the visitors appear to have greater individual quality and considerably more attacking depth. If Alonso can quickly translate that talent into a functioning system, Chelsea should have the technical advantage required to create chances against a Fulham side still adapting to its own changes.

Fulham's excellent home record last season is enough to rule out treating this as a comfortable away assignment. Nevertheless, Chelsea's summer investment, greater attacking options and the potential impact of Fulham's managerial and personnel transition shift the balance towards the visitors.

At odds of 2.07, Chelsea do not need to be treated as overwhelming favourites for the selection to be attractive. Given the difference in squad quality and the changes surrounding Fulham, Chelsea to Win is our preferred selection for this West London derby.
